Frankly I am no big fan of stinky ass hippies and pot heads either, but I am unconvinced that they constitute any serious threat to public safety.
So with most substances, when you impair judgement, you get more of what that person is about. And if they are already violent criminals, drugs tend to remove even more of this inhibitions. Not saying weed will turn an ordinary person into a killer, but those who already are generally don't become more passive under the influence.
Your average bong smoking basement dweller, again if he stayed in the house I wouldn't even give a damn. It's when I'm forced to interact with him in traffic and public. These laws are barely enforced so unless you just killed a car full of people in traffic, being under the influence almost never gets you arrested. Making it legal just lowers the bar and gives us more "derps" to deal with.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
