Minnesota Just Legalized Edibles After a Republican Didn’t Read the Bill

Critically, a key Republican state senator who co-chaired the committee that passed it didn’t read the text closely enough.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Sen. Jim Abeler “said he didn’t realize the new law would legalize edibles containing delta-9 THC before it passed,” and thought he was just regulating existing CBD products:

“I thought we were doing a technical fix, and it winded up having a broader impact than I expected,” Abeler said adding that the Legislature should consider rolling the new law back.

House Democrats and Gov. Tim Walz, both of whom support recreational marijuana legalization, are unlikely to agree to such a request. Majority Leader Ryan Winkler, DFL-Golden Valley, called Abeler’s suggestion to roll back the law “ridiculous” and said Democrats have no interest in doing so.

    Dude was high…
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

    Who cares?

War on drugs is stupid. Only morons and corrupt law enforcement agencies wish to continue it so they can abuse seizure laws.

Show of hands, how many of us would get fired from our jobs if we did something like that?
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

And people who don't want to be in traffic with people who are f'ed up on yet another substance, people who don't want to choke on your skanky weed in public places and people who don't want to increase the number of social interactions with idiots who are under the influence all the time because "now it's legal."

If people could stay home, do their shit and not mess with their neighbors this wouldn't even be an issue. We wouldn't even know you were high if you didn't go outside and do stupid shit.

I've arrested far, far, far more people for public intoxication alcohol than all drugs combined... potheads are the folks you bring up, they buy weed, go home and get high. You never encounter them. The very rare few you do, the worst crime they commit is running up huge bill at the waffle house and can't pay it.

The PI drugs I can remember, it was meth, pills or maybe shrooms, never weed.

The idea that legalization will bring weed armageddon is simply not true. In fact once it's legal far, far more will, buy, go home and partake. I know I will.

I've got some nightmarish stories about breaking up bar fights or drunk, violent, angry folks at the waffle house or walmart at 4 AM. The closest I've come to shooting someone was a off the chain drunk in a pool hall with a knife...

Guess what I've no stories about potheads doing similar felony crimes, none...

I don’t use recreational drugs, not conducive to my interests, career, or much of anything else. So don’t accuse me of being “high”.

That said if you think laws against drugs work, or laws against driving under the influence of “xyz” substance are going to keep idiots from doing idiot shit, you’re going to be continuously disappointed at the condition of the species.

All the dead end losers that want to smoke pot, or worse are already doing it. They’re already out in public doing it. Making it illegal hasn’t and will not prevent it.

Meanwhile we have a bunch of state, local, and federal agencies wasting a ton of money fighting the war on drugs. Well guess what? They’re losing, they’re never going to win, and they’re never going to stop wasting our money on stupid shit.

Prohibition doesn’t work, we should have learned with alcohol, but we needed another lesson… too bad we’re slow learners.
