    Restricted ammunition components

Shopping some reloading items, stopped at some hornady rifle bullets. I came across some restrictions,
    ------------------
    Important notice

    Notice--Ammunition Components.
Ammunition components are restricted from sale to Massachusetts.
We cannot ship hollow point components to New Jersey.
The sale of this item is restricted in Washington DC.
    ‐-----------------
    Never knew components were restricted.

The HP stuff in NJ idiotic and as expected even NJ cops don’t know the law. It’s so bad the NJSP had to put a giant note on their websites.

It’s legal to possess JHP ammunition, it’s sold in stores. It’s legal to transport it from/to range/home/store.

It’s only illegal to carry for non LEO.

    That’s it.

I guess online retailers would rather just not get involved to begin with.

Bullets = fishing weights. Of course I imagine some of the blue states prohibit lead fishing weights anyway.

Some retailers, distributors and/or manufacturers probably just decide that ANY risk of legal hassles in a blue state with 3 customers is not worth it. I have represented 2A-related clients in regulatory queries. Issues that should be trivial can rack up six figure legal bills (not from me) and/or regulatory fines that are cheaper than going on a 5-year lawsuit and appeal odyssey.

The only thing that really surprises me is reloading components aren't also restricted in NY and CA.

As I remember having a spent shell casings in your possession in Massachusetts with out a license to carry is a felony.

I always wondered in those bullet key chains or other display items made from real components could land you in jail there?

Grew up there and left as soon as I was old enough to figure out how effed up it was there.
