Question about using your SBR in a defensive shooting scenario.

How many choose / have a registered weapon as your primary home defense firearm??

Was curious about what protocol is with LE once a firearm is used in a defensive shooting...I 'assume' that weapon is held during investigation?? Years ago Dad had a pistol stolen from his vehicle & since I did the report & had the make / sn for the report, I got a call 7 years later to come pick it up. Not the same issue but the gun was actually picked up a week after stolen. Just got me to thinking about how it may be possible for a registered gun to be put into evidence. Again, I'm ignorant about what would even happen.

I'm not a big AR collector & my go to is SBR'd...would it make sense to get a basic FN or the like to replace as the go to or am I just overthinking all this??

    Gracias.

I take it that you do not travel much with that AR do you?

A 'regular' AR can be tossed in the truck / trunk and you can usually cross state lines no problem and without having to get 'permission' from anyone in advance.

One of the big reasons of the popularity of AR pistols.

Generally, any item not needed for evidence any longer, will be returned to the owner. Now if that gun is used in the furtherance of another crime, all bets are off.

Yes, you are over thinking it. If you lose the gun to evidence, go buy another.
AQ planned for years and sent their A team to carry out the attacks, and on Flight 93 they were thwarted by a pick-up team made up of United Frequent Fliers. Many people look at 9/11 and wonder how we can stop an enemy like that. I look at FL93 and wonder, "How can we lose?". -- FromMyColdDeadHand

What weapon are you most confident and familiar with?

If you need it, you NEED it. If it goes away after you use it -- WHO CARES?! Buy another!

Hey man, if you're buying another one it paid for itself right there.

Thanks gents...I have three registered lowers, cozy with all them & their various uppers.

Travel consists of getting to the range & the ranch...was hoping these would be the consistent replies. Appreciated.

I've used actually machine guns as my designated HD weapons.

Don't assume your firearm will always be taken.

This one happened literally blocks from my home, Charles Murdock wasn't arrested and he went home with his weapon.

The advice given to me, by a friend that was a victor in a self defense shooting, was to not become emotionally attached to your self defense firearm and have a spare.

Yeah, not sure I could bring myself to use the M16 for anything other than zombies & shtf / end times like craziness...my daily is a wilson edc so I'm certainly not married to anything vs surviving a rare defensive encounter.

I like that palm beach story & glad to be in tx...the world is getting so weird in some states you are more likely to get time from dirty DA's defending yourself vs the bad guy if you got shot.
