I don't worry about it. I have a dedicated home defense rifle and a dedicated training rifle. The training gun will move into the HD role in the event the house gun is taken for evidence. There's also my wife's rifle and the spares I have socked away for my daughters.

THIS!!! I can't count the times I've read about some knucklehead who builds a good fighting AR then uses some retarded nonsense to defend the house.. A bird gun, cheap AR or even a friggin pistol. WTF???

Amazing how loco the world has gone...Kyle = all about the white supremacist evil shooter & Uvalde / Highland = the evil black gun is to blame.

When I was younger I thought the HK G3 was the greatest HD gun possible. Later switched to a MP5 for super stealthy suppression. Currently would be a 6933 or 6945 depending what was close.

It really depends on a combination of the department and DA office investigating the shoot.

One time we were pursuing a car jacking suspect and the chase went into a neighboring city. One of my coworkers got into a shooting with the guy in that city but didnt hit the guy, the guy drove back into our city where he was killed by another officer. The neighboring city took the investigation for the part that happened in their city. They held my buddies department issued duty gun in evidence for several years even though the guy had been killed that day and the DA said it was a good shoot pretty much immediately. That city is known to hold the guns incase of any possible extended litigation involving the case.

My city on the other hand will give the gun back after the criminal case is concluded. That can be done in a few days or weeks if it's a pretty open/closed case.

One of the reasons I Iike Glocks and ARs for SD/HD - they hold zero sentimental value for me. If I use one and it is held for evidence, I have a spare and can just replace it. Even if the PD destroys it, my concern would be monetary compensation.

SOLGW will provide you with a similar set up if a gun that you purchased from them is used in a SD shooting and is confiscated for evidence.

You can have the exact same firearm as a pistol or as a SBR, only difference being brace or stock, how exactly is the pistol less effective than the SBR? What you SBR guys are saying is "I need this stock to be combat effective" and to get it are willing to pay $200, endure long wait time and put up with onerous regulations to get "this stock". I guess I am not as highly attuned to cheek weld as some, and to boot many will double this cause they need that back up SBR, first world problems.
