I've heard of this process being used on things like Beretta's "Sand Resistant" mags and the slides of SIG M17/M18 handguns. Apparently it yields a coating that is thin and yet very durable.

Are there any AR-15/M16/M4 components that are PVD treated? I'm guessing that this is a relatively expensive process.

Funny, my original 1911 (not an A1), is still running fine on original parts and it rolled past the 100 year mark about 10 years ago.

Pretty sure the Geissele "nanocoating" on their BCG is PVD stuff.
