And if you didn't already know this, the other important thing is, when you are done shooting pull the mag and lock the bolt back so you can air cool the can and barrel faster. Also at these temps, cook offs are a very real thing. I found that one out personally running a HK21 and when we stopped shooting and were kind of BSing a round went downrange.

Heat insulated gloves beat covers every day, just in case you ever have to grab a can or a barrel for some reason, like maybe you caught your AK hand guards on fire. A friend of mine might have done that running drums on a bipod right next to me. He knew he was smoking his barrel but didn't realize he had an actual fire yet. Get that damn thing cleared was a little challenging because it was seriously toasty. I was afraid rounds in the drum were gonna start cooking off.

If Bowers ever gets back to making their covers you should check them out. I’ve done several mag dumps and no problems.

    Do suppressor covers damage suppressors?

I was stoked for the Mechanix set as they make great stuff IME, but I burned mine up pretty quick the first time I was shooting my can. I already tossed it because some of it melted to the can and I think I’ve seen that it was discontinued already which was pretty fast since it was a new product. That said, while I’m curious on the answer to your question, some brands seem to be pretty good about warrantying their cans. It’s not something I’d be excited to test but something with proven durability like the SF RC2 and the positive claims about people getting them fixed under warranty may put my mind at ease a bit.

Does anyone successfully use a cover to reduce signature reduction under i2 devices?

If you want a durable cover that will reduce burns from your carbine’s can when sling or transitioning to handgun, or will be the best mirage block ever, then look no further than Liberty’s Defense. They make the BEST cover, it will not burn before your gun does.

With that said, most stainless steel and inconel cans can handle quite a bit of heat so I wouldn’t worry too much unless you’re trying to melt your barrel/handguards.

Titanium is a different story- titanium changes it’s structure as it gets hot. I’m not a metallurgist, but my Ti silencer building friends say that it shouldn’t get over 800° or you risk crystallization. So if you want to do any dumps, don’t use a Ti silencer with a bad-ass cover…

Good tip on the Ti suppressors. The Liberty's Defense covers do look like they take the cake, but man oh man $300 for a suppressor cover! Gonna have to marinate on that a bit.

No. And Liberty's Defense does make the best silencer covers available.
Previously did all design work at CGS Group, 2014-2024.

So, no long term damage even with FA and several mags? Thanks, Josh.

I run the Rifles Only covers and they work very well. I would not worry about damaging your cans, they should be fine.
