The NP3 has worked well for me. We had Robar up in Phx and they did BCG's for cheap, it was pretty nice. I remember my LMT carriers and thought no way this thing will actual cycle it was so rough and sticky, of course they ran like a top. But the NP3's clean up much quicker & better. I was lectured by someone recently about DLC coatings or some such 3 letter coating.

Use more Breakfree CLP and all that gunk will turn into a slippery slurry of nastiness.

Does that make them cycle better or clean up easier?

Yeah. It’s easier to use a parts cleaner to wash all the fouling away.

Probably a toss up between NP3 and hard chrome, choose based on your needs

NP3 - more lubricity less durability
Chrome - more durability less lubricity

when and why was it abandoned? From the website of the company that provides it, it sounds as tough they are still doing work.

Yeah, I saw that too. I had read it somewhere a while back, don't remember exactly. @lysander will be the guy to ask about this.

The RCA "black nitride" BCG I have in my 6mm ARC cleans up super easy, and it is a very dirty running rifle. My RTB polished nitride BCG also cleans up very easily, both pretty much just wipe off.
