Man, I need to do better with logs. I shoot a huge variety of ranges.

With pistol, usually 7-25yds, depending on drill or qual. I’ll push to 75 or 100 at least once a month for S&G when I’m stateside. I tend to disappoint myself at 25, but I can get A/C-zones at 75, no problem. Occasionally I’ll do something dumb, like try to hit the 200 or 300, which I’m very unsuccessful at. Sometimes for a qual (FBI, NCDOJ, etc), or for Dot Torture, I’ll shoot as close as powder burn. I usually do Dot Torture at 3-5yds.

For rifle, a lot of 7-50yds, with rare practice as close as 3yds, or powder burn in a shoothouse. I frequently use a PCC for up-to 50yd practice/training instead of 5.56. 50-200yds at least a couple times a month. I usually do a .mil qual to 300m at least twice a year. I shoot a match that goes to 500yds quarterly. I push further than that maybe once or twice a year for a day or two. I do that with 5.56.

Occasionally, I’ll do 600-1000yds with a borrowed gun in a larger caliber. About once a year.

You just touched upon something that you didnt say explicitly. Pistol shooting supports rifle shooting and not the other way around.

This year, ive shot my AR almost exclusively at 400-700yards.

I dry-fire at closer ranges, haha.

Previously it has been 50-100yd drills.
Most of my shooting has been pistol, so the only thing life fire does for me is confirm dry practice and maintain some level of recoil control.

With the price of ammo/components, letting those bullets get some flight time is psychologically better than short range shooting.

But lets not be kidding ourselves, if you are shooting 100's of yards you are shooting for pleasure not for any practical defensive purposes, not that there is anything wrong with that. Remember your average LE sniper shot in CONUS is 52 yards.

And according to LE statistics, the "average" self defense shooting is 3'.

The guy in the mall last month proved if you base your training on LE statistics, you're an idiot.

Absolutely. It's all about enjoying the limits of your weapon and ammo... Kind of like the people who buy SUVs but never leave the pavement or use the 4WD.

There is hunting skills transferred from recreational long range shooting for those who hunt as well as target shoot.

Amen. Regularly shooting your pistol at 50 and even 100 yards is very valuable practice.

Notice how I said the average LE sniper shot is 52 yards.

Maybe its you who is the idiot since your reading comprehension is garbage.

Anyway did I hurt your feelings because you do nothing but shoot 800 yards all day in your bondage suit? Tell me again how that relates to defensive shootings?
