I’m not really sure if an impact would be amplified, although if would seem likely. I do know that with the permanent fluid under the lenses that if a dose of pepper spray worked its way in it would really suck!

Daniel also makes good points on contacts. Though I am a fan of scleral lenses, I think that any vision problem that can be corrected satisfactorily with glasses or soft lenses should be handled that way.

I understand there to be two ways to illuminate an lpvo. One is an etched reticle that illuminates. In this case the whole reticle illuminates. These can be the type people complain are not “aimpoint bright”

Then there is the kind with a fiber optic run to the middle of the optic to make a “red dot” this kind will cause a Blume as it’s quite similar to a red dot.

I personally prefer the first type. I don’t use any illumination in the day. I don’t see the point. A good circle dot reticle is very fast to pick up with no illumination. I only use illumination when it’s dark and only enough to see the reticle.

How are you defining MPVO? Are there not enough options? Are they poorly executed or out of date? Overpriced? Pulling some models from the sageratsafaris.com database, are these in the class you refer to?

What defines a medium power scope?
More than 1 power on the low end and 10 on the top end?
Or just anything over 8 power?

I'd say there's basically 2x classes of "MPVO", light and heavy.
The S&B US's are great optics for large-frame AR's and short action bolt guns. I have several.
There is a VAST dead space between a 1-8 Short Dot and a 5-20x50mm Ultra Short

However, 32+oz optics with 50mm objectives are a bit large for sway an SPR/DMR. In the sense of the MPVO heavies, yes that market is VERY well stocked with MANY options. I see that ZCO and TT are missing from this list (though some pieces of trash were not forgotten but could have been)

Sub 24oz +/- with 44mm objective or less and the numbers drop...as does capability (think 3-12x42 S&B Precision Hunter or 2.5-10x42mm NF). There are some lesser hunting optics that meet these specs but get stuck with hunting features. Case in point S&B's new 3-18x42 which looks killer save for the weak duplex reticle.

Basically the Leupold 3.6-18x44 stands alone for an optic that fits on the lighter end of the spectrum that also has the capabilities beyond the dated 3-9x or 2.5-10x. You could include the Mk6 I guess but the MK5 is just a Mk6 improvement. I'll give a shoutout to the NX8 for being decently compact and the 30oz ATACR...they get closer than most. And the Tanget Theta 315M...which checks a lot of boxes.

The March compact line has some nifty scopes.
The 1.5-15x42 is 10.6" long and about 20 oz, the 1-10 looks pretty cool at 8.4" long and 17 oz.
Too rich for my blood though.

Light and heavy pretty much sums that up.
I tried an Arken 4-16x50 on my SPR and that pig is much better suited to a large frame AR at about 45 oz scope and mount.
Went looking for something else in the 10-12x range that didn't weigh a ton and went with a NF 2.5-10x42 and NF mount.

    I had a PA 1-6x24 and have a 1-8 that I was using for a bit.
Once the focus was set the reticle is clear and sharp but when the brightness gets high it blooms a bit, I rarely turn it on as the ACSS reticle works pretty well and the battery life is pretty short.
I've probably replaced more batteries forgetting to turn it off than in use.

I just got new glasses and talked to them about my astigmatism and got that squared away this time.
Much better now with red dots.
Scope illumination still blooms but that's just the way it is for everyone else it seems.

The march 1-10 blew me away with the weight. A 1-10 that light would be amazing, but definitely too rich for us regular guys. I just got my vortex razor 1-6 in today so I'm going to be checking it out tonight.

I have the astigmatism that makes my T1 aimpoint a 8 shaped blob. Only works well for me with both eyes open on. Have a Creedo 1-8 and have no issues with the center dot turning into a blob and find the brightness good enough for direct sun use (e.g. Utah). No bloom and crisp image.

I have not read through this thread but I hear Green reticles may help some people with astigmatism. YMMV.
