“Scientists believe that a convective plume, stretching more than 1 million miles (1.6 million kilometres) across, originated from inside the star.”

That’s insane… I hope I’m alive to witness it go supernov

If it takes almost 450 years for the light from Beteguise to reach the Earth are they watching a star that may no longer exists?

Well, its possible it all depends on what type of or class of supernova it achieves.

It could range from its still technically there to a full core collapse resulting in a black hole or neutron star. We simply just don't know.

You plan to be around for 100,000 more years? Also Betelgeuse is still in the uncertain category regarding if it will supernova or not. Seems like currently it's a strong maybe.
