Do you carry OC spray (when it's not part of your job) and how?

Considering adding a 4 oz can to daily carry concealed. (Along with handgun) Something between hands and lethal force.

What's a good way to do this? Nylon belt pouch? Pocket? What do you do?

I took Chuck Haggard's Pepper Spray Instructor class a few years back. This is his fave, and now my fave. It works, is relatively inexpensive, and does not experience a high AD rate.

Just as important, it dispenses the blinky-blinky juice where and when you want it to.

And by the way, if you have a chance to train with Chuck, you really need to do it.

His pepper spray classes are excellent. Chuck is a nationally-recognized use of force expert on the topic, and helps train departments and develop their training and use of force policies. He has been an expert witness many times as well.

I am also biased, because he's a terrific dude and a very, very smart guy. His class on small pistols, aka pocket rockets, is one of the very best on the topic.

All I see are 1/2 oz canisters. Isn't that more geared towards a woman altering the ideas of a pushy date than blinding an aggressive drug zombie, road rager, or fending off a dog attack?

I was thinking 3 to 4 oz. Already have some spray. Was curious how people comfortably carry in concealed.

I changed my mind after watching some videos and learning more about it.

The POM design lends it self to easy, safe carry.

A small can of OC in a pocket is better than the 4 oz can you left at home.

They seem to use a good chemical and don't cost much. I will order a few and give a few away, too.

    Thanks!

I'd love to take a pocket pistol class! Mr. Haggard sounds like a good dude.

I used to, but my EDC started to become a batman utility belt. I'd rather carry a second magazine.

I carry a can of Sabre pepper jell in my vehicle.... have wanted to use it on some idiots a few times! I like the jell as it will stick to the person outside vs a fog that will dissipate with the wind. I saw one of my co-workers pepper spray some inmates outside who refused to stop fighting. The wind picked it up and blew all of the shot back into his face. Even though it could have been a dangerous situation, it was really kinda funny to watch him to the "dance"...

Also carry some of Sabre's Frontier pepper spray when I'm out in the woods. While I like this as it has a 35 ft spray arc, the trigger on it is exposed and easily accidentally discharged.... yes it has happened to me twice. Got me good when it fell out of my truck when I was loading up. Fell between my legs and shot straight up into my face. It was just a short shot, but it unloaded a good dose!

I got my mother one of the pepper spray pistols for her at home. She also carries one in her purse.

Do you mean a reload or a second reload?

I can't carry a gun without a reload. Just can't do it. Unless I'm just on my own small property.

But I think a small can of OC has a far higher potential to be used than a 2nd spare magazine. (And probably more likely to be used than a gun)

Food for thought is this ASP video:

Yea, I've carried pepper spray for years, but mostly for use on dogs. It seems POM is the best I could find. It's easily concealable, seems to have enough volume and pressure to get the job done, and I really like the trigger mechanism. The toggle triggers make it hard to line it up. I have the keychain version.

It depends for me, but best brands appear to be Fox Labs and Saber Red. People I know, mostly LEOs, who have used both, have said Fox really takes the fight out of people. I have their 2 and 4 oz cans, and have no problems dropping either in pocket, also have a belt holder for them. 4 oz for bigger good for cars. https://foxlabs.com/
