I have a new Garrison .45, haven't gotten to the Range with it yet. I guess I'll look at it with a more jaundiced eye now !!!

I don’t believe that’s necessary. If intended purpose is as a “range“ gun, and it functions, that’s good enough.
If it’s to be a “Duty”/“Carry” gun, (and yes, there are a few that still do) the cheaper 1911s may work in that role, but I’d certainly want to prove reliability before committing to it.
The few I know that DO carry a 1911 invariably start a tier or two above some mentioned in this thread, at a minimum.
A true "Gun Guy" (or gal) should have familiarity and a modicum of proficiency with most all firearms platforms.
In case it is not clear, G woody, gaijin know a heck of a lot more about 1911s than I ever will.

My budget 1911 is the CZ 1911 A1. Its very nice at $875 i paid in 2015. But only 999 were made. I think they stopped production because they were loosing money on them. Hand fit slide, no mim parts, walnut grips, ss match barrel. Imo, no way only $900 gun. Its as well made as my $1600 DW valor.
I love to shoot a 1911 and think everyone should have one of them. Its classic feel. But i don’t want to carry it EDC.
