Cover should be easy. Maybe try and hang it up there with zip ties first to make sure the trunk lid still rises

Also, maybe make sure there's means to lock it in there just in case you need FOPA compliance crossing a state line. Dry run and "be sure before you do anything permanent" are always important too.

Are there any mods that can be done to up the "kick" in the trunk opening mechanism?

I've been looking for a video I saw of a trunk lid mounted rifle locker.

On the outside it looks like a box on the trunk lid.

All I would need to do is respring the trunk torsion bars but I can't find the video and it was on a charger plainclothes car.

I think I will take a horizontal tray safe and mount it vertical with something inside it to hold the gun and put some hatchback struts inside it to let it slide up when unlocked.

Problem is I would have to put it right against the rear of the trunk so it can go up and I would have to pray I never get rear ended.

Gun is a pistol so here I can carry loaded as it falls under my ccw protection.

Nothing for Crown Vic listed, but considerable cheaper than Truck Vault brand. We use these at work, so I can vouch for the quality of Boss products. You might be able to find a size/style that works.
