I lived in South East Florida for 11 years and it was an ass-whipping 4X a year to prep for hurricanes. Just exhausting, I feel for those folks , especially those whom get hit. Sux balls.

I had the manual hurricane shutters like all the poor folk. Out there in there in the rain twisting on those wing nuts...oh boy what fun.

My winter place is about 45 miles east of Ft. Myers on 80 so I've been paying close attention. Glad we haven't went down there yet. Neighbor on the next lot called me and said he'd taken the canvas off my shade structure, put the 60" outside tv in storage, and tied down all the furniture. I owe him at least a case of beer. I just figured I'd lose it all. Someone else was using that lot is the reason I didn't take it all down before I came north.
I keep my 16 ft storage trailer tied down so I don't have to worry about it.

I'm halfway between LaBelle and Moore Haven. Labelle is closer to the east coast. The forecast for winds shows possible 99 for LaBelle and 60 for Moore Haven/Clewiston. That's quite a difference.
Watching ABC coverage, they don't care too much about us country living people or the indian reservation south of us, they're concentrating on Tampa, Sarasota, Orlando and such.

Looks like it made landfall 20 miles away from my dads place down there.
I talked to him this morning and he said he wasn't worried about it.
I just tried calling and it went straight to voicemail so I'm wondering if the cell service is out?

He is in a newer community with a house built about 5 years ago, so I'm hoping he is ok.

    Thanks!

Every year around Labor Day my wife and I go down and rent a house (different places) in the same friggin' area as the eye just rolled across. Next year it won't look the same.

Oh, the best part? My Mom lives in Port Charlotte and my sister lives in North Port.

We were there exactly 4 weeks ago.

I am glad we dodged this one, I am still cutting up fallen trees from Ida in the back 40. Not happy it is hitting Florida, just glad we didn’t get hit again. 2 weeks without power and weeks of helping gut houses sucks.

I did 30 years of the above. I had a wing nut driver on my drill but still.

Riding out the storm, still got power and internet. I'm on the current path. Let's see how I go through during the night. Earlier this morning it was raining heavily and causing some minor flood in the street in front of my house. But We're buttoned up tight at Casa Miami_JBT. Shutters are up, fridge is stocked with beer, kid is asleep, and the wife is relaxing on the sofa.

Right now, it is howling though and picking up speed.

What's strange is this is the first hurricane I don't have to work.
