As others have said, there is shitty parts of living almost everywhere.

I don't really shoot much anymore since all my friends who were into that stuff moved away due to their careers. Started getting into cars again, but there's not much car culture here so I just spent a lot of time alone in the garage. Now I spend my free time researching financial and investment shit in the hope my wife and I can retire before I turn 50 and move around a bit instead of being stuck in one place because of work.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't necessarily let ____ define where you live, because in a decade all that shit might seem completely stupid if your priorities change.

It's not like he doesn't have a point. It's a BS law and officers have used it to justify BS stops. Half the older neighborhoods where this happens don't have decent sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, etc. If the LAPD #'s are correct and over 30% of the citations over a 10 year period were against blacks who are less than 10% of the population, I would have to question how the citations/fines are given out. Denying the citation is a pretext for a stop is burying your head in the sand.

I live in New England. If there are j walking laws they are not enforced.

A phenomenon I have noted. And I can only assume it’s some cultural thing I’m not accustomed to. Black people walking right down the middle of the road.

I live on a quiet street three blocks from a predominantly African American neighborhood. I’ll sit on my porch and have a drink watching the foot traffic. A thing I’ve noticed is this small, but prominent (they’re in the middle of the road after all) group of people. They are exclusively black. They ultimately make up a fraction of people out walking.

No clue why this exists. But I sit and watch it.

Like I said before I have a front row seat to the best and worst of the state and on balance life is pretty good.

We can do better, but that can be said for pretty much everywhere nowadays...

I still can't believe I'm defending CA but I hoped there would be less closed mindedness here.

At the end of the day, California is a wackjob of a state but there are a good 10~12million folks here trying to make it work.

The same logic that says California is a lost cause would suggest the whole country is a lost cause. Half the country voted for Biden. California alone, if compared to the East Coast, would cover North Carolina up through Massachusetts. It's not the easiest place to pigeonhole.
