It's a super light, so obviously it's gonna have more recoil than firearms using the same round but have a couple more pounds. It's something I forget about with 5.56 until I shoot one of my old SP1s. It's not that they have a lot of recoil, but compared to M4s they have some recoil.

With my VZ, I don't have a threaded barrel so can't do a break, but it's not so bad I can't manage it. I like my handy, dandy x39 carbine.

Steyr, Zastava designed the M70 to handle rifle grenades. Hence the RPK type receiver and heavier trunion. Yes it is a pig but I love mine. Of course, you know this already, and you are probably one of the more knowledgeable people on this board.

I would have liked to see Zastava adopt more modern machining techniques and produce an AK with an upper like a SCAR rather than a large top cover with a pic rail (similar to the Galil ACE). Interchangable barrels are nice, but I see limited real world use. I won’t be swapping between 6.5 Grendel and 7.62x39 on the same platform. I would buy two seperate rifles. I also hope the M19’s top rail holds zero with time and use. Same goes for the interchangeable barrels.

God willing this comes stateside, I would probably pick up the 6.5 Grendel version if the magazines are easy to come by.

I knew it handled rifle grenades due to the front folding sight / gas block setup. I never really put 2 and 2 together to realize that is why they incorporated the RPK trunion. I have had a LOT of AKs, at one time about 32 examples, but I'm not an expert on the design, I'm more versed on HK platforms.

It's not an AK, they weren't meant to accept AK mags any more than HK 93 were meant to accept AR mags. The Czechs did everything they could to NOT make a AK rifle, they were told to design a rifle around the 7.62x39 round. Honestly AK mags are kinda crap compared to VZ58 mags.

Truth. They rock in with Swiss like fit. The rifle allows you to install a bolt release that is easier to use than an AR and because of the bold hold open, your extended mag and bold release can make the manual of arms pretty nice and quick. Even if you don't, the BHO and fit make mag changes nice.

The Czechs knew a few things.

Exactly. The 58 was leaps ahead of the 47 and in most ways superior to the AKM. Side folding stock? No problem, two bolts, no changing out an entire rear trunion. Suppressed? Go ahead, it will even mount up level and will actually offer decent suppression. Superior mags, bolt hold open (as mentioned), superior mag release and while we are at it at FUNCTIONAL selector that isn't a giant piece of stamped sheet metal.

But I swear everyone thinks everything needs to take Glock mags and AR mags (or in this case AK mags) because god forbid something is designed around a better magazine. I remember back in the 90s, BEFORE Pmags, people getting NATO stocks for their AUG so they could run a shittier magazine ON PURPOSE. Today you have people buying actual Swiss 551 /553 firearms and still wanting to run an AR magazine in them.

Somewhere, someplace is a frustrated gun owner who WANTS to buy a HK SP5 but they haven't come out with one that accepts Glock 33 round magazines yet.

Gun buyers are just as dumb as the rest of the population. And it forces companies to venture of into bad ideas because there's a demand. To your point, I bet HK has received more than one email for the SP5 that will take a glock mag.
