    On this day Dec 7.

The Japanese Imperial Navy had 6 aircraft carriers when they attacked the US Navy at Pearl Harbor on this day.

Closer to home, a good friend of mine went to heaven 9 years ago.

Riots are like sports, it's better to watch it on TV at home.

Heard a guy on the radio this morning on the way to work. 101yo and a survivor of the USS Arizona (if you can believe that.....must've been aft). Essentially said today was about remembering those who died, not those who survived. Sounded clear and concise, not some rambling old man.

I was a little put off, when my son came home from school, I asked what did you learn about, hoping maybe Pearl Harbor? Nope, I understand he is only in 1st grade, but how about a little mention. So we had a long talk about WWII and are now watching Pearl Harbor. I know not the best movie, but the only thing on about it.
    Our education system really sucks.
50 years from now 9-11 will have been totally forgotten, if not sooner.
I guess the moral of the story is you are in charge of your kids education.

I just watched White light, Black rain and they were interviewing younger people in those cities that had been nuked.
They had no idea of the significance of 6 and 9 August 1945 and they lived there.

Less than a Century later and it's all but forgotten except for those unlucky enough to have lived through it. And there's not many left.
If it's never talked about long enough, it's as if it never happened for those later on.

If I can tell you about the Battle of the Somme, Sgt. York, the Red Baron and things like that, nobody has a good excuse to not know about Pearl Harbor. People can educate kids about 400 years of slavery but they can't talk about when the US/UK and our allies defeated actual fascism, imperialism and despoitism during one of the worst times for humanity in all of history?

When I was in the 4th grade, we were being taught all about the revolutionary war and that was definitely more than 100 years ago. It's all about values and what is considered important to schools and parents, and if the schools aren't doing the job then you tell them. My grandfather taught me more about WWII than any school book.
