    .
If he bought them from his departments old inventory sure he could have. I know a guy who does nothing but go looking for old "transferables", he usually offers to take those "old Colts" and replace them at no cost with brand new M4s. PDs don't give a shit about pre 86 vs post 86. PDs aren't allowed to sell old inventory on Gunbroker as a general rule so when somebody comes in and says "I'll replace your old crap with new crap" they generally jump on it.

If he had not been chief of police and simply a FFL / SOT that specializes in MIL/ LE sales he'd have been fine. His problem is he cross pollinated the firearms he had access to in a way you aren't supposed to do.

I think the devil is going to be in the details on this one. If the PD bought a gun for $X and sold it for $X+$Y, then that should be no problem. $Y goes in to the PD budget. However, if the police department bought a gun for $X, he sold it to his business for $X, and then his business sold it to someone else for $X + $Y, then that's a problem. Of course, that would be a problem regardless of whether the gun is NFA or not. The NFA becomes an issue if the reason he gave for acquiring them wasn't true.

This guy is a complete moron.

Even if he is acquitted he will likely be bankrupt. Good luck getting the county board to approve payment for his defense costs. Not exactly cheap getting an attorney to represent you in federal court.

I suspect there will be a lot of that going on as well.

Well there is this, he was using his own money sounds like a scheme to supply his hobby with LE demo guns. Bet he regrets trying to get that mini gun.

In a statement to KCCI last week, Adair City Attorney Clint Fichter said none of the alleged conduct involved city money or oversight.

They say dude made his own technical.

He’s also accused of mounting a heavy machine gun on top of his personal vehicle, a Humvee.

I wonder if he never would have gotten in trouble if he didn’t insistently try to get that mini gun?

Iirc, his is a 20mm, or maybe a browning? I knew a few guys years ago that got in the game in the 80s and they had a rediculous collection between them.
