I hope somebody can confirm what the slot is. This is the only hand guard I’ve ever seen with this slot. I know it has a purpose. I’m thinking it was meant to be another proprietary mounting solution, that just never took off.

They are only located on the bottom of the hg. There are larger oval slot cutouts on both sides, plenty of ventilation.
I don’t see how having a keyhole cutout, with a slot, as opposed to a larger oval cutout on the bottom would help with ventilation…it has to be some sort of mounting scheme.

It took me about ten minutes with a file to get an mlock finger stop to install.
I haven’t used this hg for years, as it had issues moving forward under recoil no matter how much you torqued it down. MI replaced it years ago with a combat rail, and told me to do whatever I wanted with the old one. So I drilled and tapped a hole in between the two clamping screws, dremilled a divot in the barrel nut, and locked it in with a set screw.
I haven’t shot this build yet, but I don’t think it’s gonna move again.

I think it’s a machining mistake. Especially if the holes are the same diameter as the wider slots.

Otherwise does a qd sling socket go in it?
