Raises the question of how many G3/91 types is sufficient redundancy?

    You might be reaching 99.99999%

It’s hard to make an AR different enough to really be a concern. Having a similarly placed white light is something many overlook. Any unique or ambi controls should also be consistent.

I guess I have both. I have too many AR’s. They range from 14.5 to 20 inch. I have multiples of many builds. The lowers are built almost identical except for various triggers and RE’s. The uppers have the diversity. Some are for CQC/home defense. Some are for competition and some for recce with others for long range steel banging.

    Cheers, Steve

My thoughts exactly. The manual of arms are exactly the same although the accessories may differ (optics, lights). Anyone who has run an AR regularly should be able to pick up any AR and use it.

I think you should be familiar with a diversity of firearms and know how they operate, ideally.

    ARs Ive got

Daniel Defense V7s with an Eotech. It's my duty gun
Colt 6920... Old duty gun. Just bought it back from the distributor that bought our old duty rifles and is currently in transit to the FFL. Will have a Steiner P4Xi
    M16A4 build, irons
A1 style carbine. Kind of a modern version of the old Vietnam era carbines
    Colt/BCM 16 inch with a red dot
BCM precision rifle. Currently it does not have an optic. The scope was moved to the new Bergara 22.

The duty rifles obviously have/had more use over the years. But I take the others out at least several times a year and train with them. Especially the iron sighted models.

Ive never gone from one to the other and somehow didnt know how to run the rifle.

When it comes to rifles which philosophy do you adhere to?

Do you have 10 16" barreled rifles? Or 5 MK18s? Or do you have one of everything? Personally, I like pairs. I'm a one is none, two is one guy.
If youre good, ou can swap pretty seemlessly between things. Dont blow $ on BS and get good at shooting, its universal. Dont buy 15 shitty base guns, cover the bases, and kit them out fully, then yourself.

Last count, I had 14 HK 91/G3 pattern rifles in .308, I might be adding 2 more. Not sure what happened, but my dad leaving me on a 500 yard range with his 91 w/ zeiss scope when I was a kid while he was seeing patients (usually just a couple hours) seems to have had a profound effect on me.

You just pick up/build stuff over the years. Then think about selling some and don't because selling is a huge pita.
