And I don't disagree. But my only real point of concern is "don't trust the police to NOT shoot you, do everything you can to help them NOT shoot you." A whole generation has been taught to film the police with their phones, that is probably a reasonably safe thing to do with hundreds of other people in the middle of the day.

But if it's middle of the night or a similar situation as shown in the video it is probably for the best to have NOTHING in your hands. Being "in the right" is pretty meaningless if you just got shot 4 times.

Do you really think I'm trying to assign blame to the guy who got shot? If so, you are working real hard to not understand a single thing I have written.

I mean why is it that I have to worry about the police accidentally shooting me for moving my hands the wrong way during a traffic stop just as much as I am trying to "not get shot" by someone mugging me at gunpoint. So if I feel like the danger of getting accidentally shot by LEO is equal to that of getting shot by a mugger at gun point doesnt that mean there is something fundamentally wrong with the way LEO and civilians interact?

Lots and lots of reasons, some understandable and many that are completely unacceptable but remain the reality of our situation.

The long and short is during a contact, you don't know which cops you are going to get. Are you going to get the calm professional who is 100% good with you and your carry weapon and is just running your ID because you blew through a yellow light and will send you on your way if everything checks out good? Or are you gonna get the guy cop that thinks NOBODY should own a gun let alone carry a gun and thinks the only reason you have it is so you can shoot people?

Just like they don't know who or what they are pulling over, we don't know who we are gonna get when they pull us over. But a LOT of which kind of cop we deal with has to do with OUR demeanor. Cops very quickly make a judgement about us "seems safe vs. seems dangerous" and it's almost 100% body language, the words we say and if we are coming across as aggressive / confrontational. We obviously are in control of a LOT of that.

In almost every case where I've been pulled over or otherwise stopped be LEOs simply being calm, rationale and whenever possible "helpful" has contributed to changing their demeanor to calm, professional and cooperative. Granted that gets harder to do at 2am with a SWAT team responding to a "shots fired" call out, but it is still in your best interest to help get them from condition orange down to a nice mellow yellow where nobody gets shot.

When everyone gets calmed down and you are standing in your yard in your underwear (probably)...then everyone can figure out who is right and wrong and what is actually going on because that isn't gonna get sorted out if even one of them think your phone or the robot they just threw in your trailer, which is now in your hand "might" be a gun. And it only takes one idiot to get the shooting started and there is usually at least one in every group.

    This is kind of sickening.
Media complicity is a huge factor in many of these stories. Glad to see them finally getting called out in a well documented way.

    With you, no.

Just think it is a better idea to eliminate the root cause of the disease instead of treating late stage symptoms with hopes to prevent worsening of the illness

Don't forget, in the rare cases where it appears the LE involved might get charged, some variation of the comment "this is starting to look bad" along with a link to the news concerning the new twist to the incident.

On a similar note, I don't think I have seen mention of this in KY news(body was dumped about an hour from where I live) and is barely mentioned in TN news despite likely being the biggest news story to come out of the area in years which is another one that makes the oft repeated "media just hates and attacks police" claim laughable.
