170 mph VW Jetta? I'm calling BS.

Utah highway patrol arrested a guy down near Kanab. They say he fled and was travelling between 150-170 during pursuit.

    In a Jetta.

Ain't no way a Jetta is hitting that velocity short of an air drop.

Turbo model Chipped to the edge of its life?

    It's that simple.

The Jetta has a model that comes with the turbo 2.0 out of the GTI. That motor can make some serious power with not a whole lot of mods. Hell just a tune can get them to around 300hp and 350tq.

Looked around real quick and saw a video of a guy doing 160mph in a tuned Jetta GLI and was tach at 4900 rpm. Motor still had another 1500 RPM to redline.

A bigger turbo GLI I think would hit 170 on a long freeway.

I hit just shy of 160 in my tuned 2006 WRX measured by gps. That thing only made 325 hp and 400tq at the motor.

Yep, definitely possible. I have a friend who had one that would run with my E55. And during an air drop, their terminal velocity is something like 124mph.

Just kidding, I don’t really know the terminal velocity of a Jetta, but they can be made VERY fast.

A 2020 Jetta has a drag coefficient of 0.27. That's darn good. The only other factor of going that fast is horsepower. I'm not sure how much it would take to go ~170 mph (could be roughly calculated based on the Cd and frontal area) but crank up the boost, tune, and supporting mods and it'll get you there. If I had to guess I'd say it takes less than 500 horsepower to achieve

Possible for sure. Boost makes almost anything possible.

Multiple bolt on turbo kits will get you 350 easy. If you go with a more extreme turbo and associated cooling, fuel system work and exhaust, it would be easy to well exceed that.

New Dimensions used to make a turbo kit for the VR6 motor that made over 600 horsepower on pump gas. We built a 1.8T that hit 274 hp on the dyno without going too crazy so I think it would be possible with enough $$$ and tuning.

I have a company car. GMC Acadia and it shows 160 mph. I thought BS, then took my foot off gas at 120. You never know.
