The aluminum receiver were not imports, they are part kit builds on Fed Arms receivers which are horrific. The thumbhole SAR 8s are the last of the Greeks and marked as such.

They were so bad. Back when they came out a buddy wanted to get one and I warned him away from that turd—and he got mad and said I just didn’t want him to have it because it was cool! Wtf! Lol
Let those who are fond of blaming and finding fault, while they sit safely at home, ask, ‘Why did you not do thus and so?’I wish they were on this voyage; I well believe that another voyage of a different kind awaits them.”

The part that threw everyone is Springfield sold them, but it was a straight up Z grade build with a shit kit from Century Arms on a horribly spec'd receiver.

I'd probably pick a turn-key, free-floated mid-length AR carbine, perhaps by Geissele (since they generally build something I wouldn't have to after-market alter or modify to go to war right now), no monkeying around and having to go to Brownells or half-a-dozen other places except for optic, laser, and bullets.

This is a free-floated 7.62 Armalite AR-10 carbine. Rio de Janeiro's civil and military police replaced their FALs with a handier (yet still powerful enough to handle walls and cars) daily duty long gun.

Holy crap it looks like a DEF-10. (16 in, midlength, .750 dia at port lightweight barrel w/chrome bore, railed gas block, carbine buffer tube w/H3 buffer)

That version looks to be the "B" that takes FAL mags. The "A" version uses Pmags. (Or I have that backwards)

Neat. Not a bad choice and only about $1200 today. (With standard A2-like handguards)

    Tavor 7.

If I lived an a desert I might pick something else due to the openness of the charging handle system and difficulty washing out every nook & cranny should it get sand in it.
