I'd probably pick a turn-key, free-floated mid-length AR carbine, perhaps by Geissele (since they generally build something I wouldn't have to after-market alter or modify to go to war right now), no monkeying around and having to go to Brownells or half-a-dozen other places except for optic, laser, and bullets.
This is a free-floated 7.62 Armalite AR-10 carbine. Rio de Janeiro's civil and military police replaced their FALs with a handier (yet still powerful enough to handle walls and cars) daily duty long gun.

After looking for 3 months I finally found a SIG MCX Spear lt 16" 5.56 at normal price. They have been advertised on gunbroker for double.

It was. There are several versions. The originals are basically hk-91s, followed by thumbhole abortions like this, then a real nightmare with a terrible aluminum receiver
