Yes in 1985 an F-15 shot down a satellite with the ASM-135 ASAT missile.
Then in 1988 that program was canceled.

My recollection was that it was a satellite in geosynchronous orbit. Much higher than the f-15 flew, 24.5 miles I think? The f-15 was just the launch vehicle up where the air was thinner.

I stand by my original comment, if we wanted it down we have means to do so. It's a balloon... Moving slowly. A relatively huge target.
