    .38 Super & 9x19. Same extractor?

Can an extractor be tuned to work with both?

Will the ejector work with both?

Would an ejector tuned for 9x19 be better with the rimless .38 Super Comp instead of the semi-rimmed .38 Super?

    Yes.

Yes but it'll have to be set up with the longer Super case.

    Better? In what way?

You’d have more extractor tension with a Super case, if extractor was originally set up for 9mm.
In my experience it would still run fine with SC or Super. That said, too much extractor tension can be as problematic as too little tension.
A true "Gun Guy" (or gal) should have familiarity and a modicum of proficiency with most all firearms platforms.

I have a multi-caliber gun that will run 40S&W, 9x23 and 9x19 on the same EGW ejector. I don't think I would need to change either the ejector or the extractor if I wanted to shoot 38-Super.

    The extractor is an Aftec.

I do remind myself to wipe the fouling out of the extractor tunnel when I switch to 40 if I've only been shooting the 9s for an extended period.

    I see.

    I was thinking of getting a new 1911 that comes with a 9x19 & .38 Super barrel.

I'm not paying for .38 Super factory ammo so I'd just buy brass and load it and I was wondering which brass I would buy.

Ideally, I'd use a .38 brass type that would allow for reliable shooting along with 9x19 by only changing the barrel & magazine.

I didn't expect 9x19 and .38 to require different electors. Do they?

Better as in reliability. I can't stand a malfunctioning gun.

No, same ejector. No need to change.

If the breech face is properly sized for 38-Super, then you could pick whatever brass suits you.
    I prefer a rimless case.

All you should have to change is the barrel and recoil spring.

Try the 38-Super magazines with 9x19 too. They shouldn't have a problem but if they do, get some MecGars mentioned in the other thread.

    Thanks!

Can .38 rimlock like .32 acp can with shorter OAL jhp's?

I haven't done much with the 38-Super. Perhaps others can weigh in.

I use a much stronger recoil spring for 9X23 and its a rimless case. I've had zero feed issues.

For maximum reliability you have several choices.

    • Fit one extractor for the 9mm and one extractor for the Super

    • Use Starline .38 Super Comp brass. It has the same dimensions as regular .38 Super but the rim is the same diameter as the 9mm

    • Use Starline .38 TJ brass. It has the same exterior dimensions as regular .38 Super but the extractor bevel is moved slightly forward to help in full length resizing. It too has the same rim diameter as the 9mm
