Used Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5 a good buy at $900??

I was cruising around EBay when I came upon a couple used Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5 scopes, one with illuminated SPR reticle, the other with illuminated CMR-2 reticle. Both are going for about $900 plus shipping, and I’m thinking either might be a good buy for the money. However, I don’t know much about this particular model, as I had no idea Leupold ever made a Mark 4 1.5-5 in the first place. Anybody have any experience with these? How do they compare to something new in that $1k price range? Are they worth $900 used, or should I save a few more pennies, and buy something more modern like a Razor HD II 1-6? To put things into context, this would be mounted on a 14.5” M4 type carbine, and used to make hits out to 400 meters or so.

Very dated optic I don't think it's a good buy at $900, illum switches on the MK4's I've had sucked, I'd go for the Razor.

The only way I could imaging a Mark 4 1.5-5 being worth anywhere close to $900 is if they're rare, and I'm including it as part of an unlimited budget clone.

You would be much better off with the Razor, a Nightforce NX8 1-8, or a Steiner T5Xi 1-5. The Steiner seems to be priced pretty well right now from EuroOptic.

For $900, I would certainly buy a good used Razor 1-6. Not to say that the Mark 4 isn't a good scope, it just isn't worth that much these days compared to more modern options with better illumination and mag range.

If you want one, in my experience, the CMR-2 reticle was/is a much better option for this type of scope.

I have an old CQ/T I run on my PTR-91. I've owned it forever - maybe I should sell it for a mint & get something newer

Thanks for the replies fellas. Seems the overall consensus matches what my initial gut feeling told me. I think I’ll look into other options like the Steiner T5 1-5 & T6 1-6, or the new Sig Tango 6T.

People think they are classics now or something so instead of being 500$ it's now 1000$, I would go for one of the plethora of 1-6 optics out there for less money.

That scope is over priced at $900. I have that same scope on my rifle, and it's a great scope. I paid $800 for it new in 2017.

I'm still running one of these...It's a good optic, but it is very dated.

As others have said, $900 is overpriced, and there are many better modern choices in that price range.

Well, its only 15oz. Thats the only plus I see.

Are these much better than the vxr patrols for half the price (and less weight?)

Either way, id spend money on a modern option
