64 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claw .223/5.56 data

I ended up with a supply of 64 gr TBC "pulls" for 223/5.56. I'm hearing that these bullets can be a bit tough to get to expand reliably and that max or near max loads are advised. Does anybody have any data for this, or experience in using them?

    Are you sure it's 64 not 62?
My personal experience is for a huge hog, one by the ear is a bang and a flop, that was a bit over 100 yards. For people, they don't walk away and do the same thing even through mediums, auto glass and interior walls.

    What Mark said.

If this is the 62 grain, then I think it is the same as the FBI T3 load.

In FBI gel tests, it performed very well even out of short barrels.

I weighed a few more samples and still came up with 64 gr. The newer design has plastic tips and is lighter.

FWIW... there have been 64gr TBBC bullets for sale on GB, and Midway had some of the loaded ammo marked "for training only" ( or something like that )

The 64gr .224 TBBC, has a boatail... the older 62gr was flatbased.

anachronism ... how did your reloading work out ?

And from "drjaydvm" on another site.

argggh.. still having issues loading pics.

I haven't gotten that far yet. Life intruded again and has been monopolizing my time.

Mine are the 64 gr boattailed design.

I get it. The older I get the less time I seem to have to do what I want.

    64 grain TBBC . . .

62 grain TBBC on the left for comparison . . .

Yup, the boattail one in the first two pics.

Astonishingly, I still don't have them loaded although I did round up an equal amount of once-fired Speer nickel "Law Enforcement" cases.
