That height gets you a 1/3 lower co-witness, correct?

The 1.57 mounts get you lower 1/3.

The Badger mount is hard to beat. I also use and really like Spuhr mounts a lot, and I've heard good things about the Geissele Super Precision mount as well. But it's hard to beat the accessories for the Badger COMM

Doesn't it depend on the mount? The height of regular irons is 1.4 if memory serves me correct and lower 1/3, is anything from 1.52-1.7. There is no standard for the industry

How do you co witness an LPVO with BUIS? If you go too low you can't even mount a BUIS.

PROBLEM: I need a couple of LVPO mounts. I'm strongly considering using SCALARWORKS LEAP/08 mounts for my ATACR 1-8x’s.

BACKGROUND: All of my ARs have SW front BUIS and a few also have a SW rear BUIS. Both of my Aimpoint PROs utilize the LEAP/02 mount. Both of my Aimpoint 3x magnifiers use their LEAP/06 flip-mount. So, I extensively and nearly exclusively use SW mounts and BUIS because they are incredibly well machined, thoughtfully engineered, look good and are very robust and easy to use.

CONSIDERATIONS: I’ve never shot with an LVPO, so these ATACR’s will be my first. These LVPO’s and mounts will be used on identical rifles (one to train on, the other to remain in reserve) so I want both LVPOs utilizing the same mounts. I will use Aimpoint ACRO P2’s I’m conjunction with the LVPOs. I intend to use these rifles as my primary arms during the American Civil War II.

ISSUES WITH MOUNT: Reading over the spec sheet, the only point of concern that I can see is that there is only provision for an offset red dot sight vice in-line ring mounting. I’ve read the pros and cons of both red dot sight mounting solutions and know that, so long as I train, either is viable.

RFI: Am I going astray with my choice? Even if you think the SW mount would serve me well, could you provide me with compelling arguments to go a different direction, e.g. LaRue, OEM, etc.?

    Many Thanks!
I’ve seen the rings break (see some ARFCOM posts). Likewise, the use of knobs rather than levers to apply tension too and clamp the mount to the Picatinny rail make it difficult to torque it down to spec and to remove it. I tried an Aimpoint mount and hated it.

For your ATACR, if you need QD, try a new ADM mount with the titanium levers. I love them. If you don’t need QD, Geissele, Badger Ordnance or Nightforce make great mounts.

I also own a few Spuhrs, but find them to be too heavy and bulky with their version of the QD levers.

^^^That's it. I've had both SW and Aero scope mounts, sold them. LW is nice but not at the sacrifice of reliability, I'll stick with stronger mounts like Spuhr, Geissele, Reptilia and the aforementioned Badger. A Spuhr non-QD will be my next mount.

It’s more in reference to the optic height than it is actual usability of the cowitness.

Supposedly, the Badger 1.7 is akin to lower 1/3 height with red dots. So it’s familiar to many people. I don’t know if that’s true or not but it feels that way. All of my dots are lower 1/3 and it’s seem less swapping to the LPVO in one.

I played with a friends Strike Eagle in a standard height mount a few weeks ago after years of being on the 1.7 C1 and immediately was reminded why I had that height.

The Geissele brings nothing to the table over the Badger IMO. The Reptilia at least has lower profile knobs I think but for me, if it isn’t 1.7 height, IDGAF.

Dude straight up lost me when he said spr, 12.5 barrel. Yes I understand what spr means but in actual use a 12.5?

I also had a Viper in a Badger 1.7, I think it's optimum if it clears anything else you might have on the gun. I would only go higher if there was clearance issues with lasers etc. I lost interest in LPVOs and went back to Aimpoints, in fact I have a Comp M5 on a Badger 1.7 mount.
