    Leaving PC in car

I'm relatively new to plate carriers and armor but was thinking about getting an inexpensive plate carrier with some level IIIa soft plates to keep in my car just in case. Do you know if extreme heat or cold will degrade the integrity of the plates? Or any advice on how to store them?

My L4 ceramic plates are in the back seat area of my garaged Raptor, in a carrier with mags, pistol and such 100% of the time.

I suppose I’ll find out whether or not they degrade if I ever need them.

I’m not going to sweat it, as they won’t do me any good if I don’t have them.

I leave a set of steel plates in my truck and the ceramics stay at home. They’re in there “if” bad things happen and they double as a weight vest for running. There is clearly no worries of degradation due to the environmental conditions.

Non steel depends on the composition and im sure the manufacturer will say what degrades plates besides age which isnt much a concern these days.
    I dont like steel.

What are soft plates? Soft armor should not be left in vics, the heat could lead to delamination, and UHMWPE soft armor is particularly susceptible to damage by heat.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Plate-shaped soft ballistic panels (handgun rated or for use as plate backers for in-conjunction plates).

Thanks for the info so far. So what would you recommend for an affordable way to keep a plate carrier available in a car? I'm just looking for something relatively light and easy to wear to get me from one point to home if necessary.

what temp? Summer in AZ is different than summer in, for example, the UP.
