Maybe the feed lips squeezed it out like a tube of toothpaste. Don’t know the friction coefficient between aluminum and copper is. If the feed lips were gripping the case behind the bullet…..
I see no up-side in using live ammunition here and it violates the basic rule to remove all live ammunition from the training space. However I am curious how you figure three layers of safety, as I imagine one mental lapse and racking the slide out of reflex and you have a ND.
"We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately."
The upside is mag weight. It changes the reloads.
I dont have that rule in my house.
As I said I put snap caps as the top couple rounds now.
Layers:
visual verification of snapcap in chamber
Reset by partial racking
2nd visual verification before next rep.
I dont rush through training or do it mindlessly.
It's a "basic" rule for a reason... It's not optional.
This reminds me of how the Marine Corps used to use enlisted men as ballast (!) while flight-testing helicopters...
What could go wrong?
Or anything else that would provide the appropriate ballast: loose bullets (not cartriges!) with newspaper; wheel weights; sinkers; etc.
If you know anyone that reloads, they’d prolly make you 15 dummies for a six pack and/or some sorted brass.
