    AR mag question

Below is an item from DPMS website. Description reads "These magazines are laser cut which eliminates the spot welds and produces a smooth finish.". Never seen an aluminum GI mag that wasn't spot welded. I guess my question would be "How is a laser cut holding these things together?" Are they referring to laser welding?

Yes, you can clearly see the laser weld at the front seam.

Laser welding does seem like a nice clean way of doing it, I will admit. However, I'm just not sure why anyone would buy mags that aren't Magpul, Lancer, or Surefeed. It's not like saving a buck or even 2 per mag is worth it, IMHO.

FWIW, I think DPMS mags are D&H Tactical.

I just looked on their website, and from the pictures it looks like D&h mags are spot welded. The description also states they are resistance welded, so these mags might really be Freedom Group's own mags. But who knows?

If you look ad the ad copy for the D&H mag on Brownells site it says laser welded in the description.

The new black Brownells I bought mags also appear to be laser welded and their info is now in the same locations as a D&H mag.

I have run D&H SR25 mag knock offs with great success. I would not discount them too much. I have many KAC SR25 mags but these knocks off are pretty damn good...They aint KAC but $25.....

The spot weld was never an issue. A seam weld would be nice assuming all the other dimensions are right and the mag body is totally in spec.

But the DPMS name isn't exactly synonymous with excellence.
