SGM Billy Waugh has passed away at 93

SGM Billy Waugh has passed away at 93. He was a legend in SF and CIA circles, having been the first man posted to Bin Laden in the 80's and early 90's, and even jumping into Afghanistan in the opening days of the war at 71 years old. Exploits which he wrote about in his excellent book: Hunting the Jackal. God Speed to you Sir.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson, “History shows that it does not matter who is in power or what revolutionary forces take over the government, those who have not learned to do for themselves and have to depend solely on others never obtain any more rights or privileges in the end than they had in the beginning.”

    RIP Warrior.

Vietnam, all those places in between, Afghanistan, .... they couldn't kill him. Father time caught up with him at last.

Riots are like sports, it's better to watch it on TV at home.

Read about him in Surprise Kill Vanish; the man was more anxious and on edge when he was safe. He lived for danger. Waugh’s exploits were so incredible they’d be hard to believe if they weren’t verified. A true hero. RIP Warrior!

He was a stud first class with oak leaf clusters. It means something when the men of MACV-SOG looked up to him, said he was the man they tried to emulate.

Damn, I was working on a trip to the Tampa area to visit a friend who is friends of an ex SF guy that was a good friend of Billy. I wanted to meet him to shake his hand for getting a job done that I was taxed with then other things got in the way and we never got back to it but Billy got it done.

Can't say more than that, but damn I really wanted to meet the man.

    RIP

With where I live and what I do, I have run into many former MACV-SOG and former/retired SF guys. 99% of them are quiet professionals, not wanting to put their tales to paper, but will gladly chat over a beer or cup of coffee. I am sad that generation is passing every day.

    Rich praise indeed. RIP warrior.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.
