Yeah, I went home for a couple weeks on a Red Cross message once.

There’s also a DoD contract for their heart card classes and they have a presence on bases, including overseas.

“Americans who have been around awhile, during that later stage of real, not-so-corrupt, high-trust America may think of the Red Cross as that wonderful volunteer group that has helped the wounded during wartime since the middle of the 1800s, collects and distributes blood (about 45% of the "market" in the US), and teaches water rescue. One may think of of famous nurse Clara Barton.”

Much of this here is irrelevant. Red Cross is a non-governmental organization, so there’s no need to appeal to “a time when the government was totally good”. They teach some lifeguard stuff, but I don’t think they are very active in the technical rescue field. They do some “me too” card courses, like AHA and ASHI. Clara Barton is a historical figure, but the DoD has nurses and shit now.

Red Cross is a mixed bag. I mean they are a huge international organization with a lot of roots in various governments. Do they do good, yup. Do they do shit I don't like, yup. Bottom line on this is that, at least in their mind, it's a humanitarian mission.

On balance I'd put them on the plus side but they definitely could use some cleaning up, and some divestment from politics. Not like that's gonna happen though. Such is life on this muddy rock.

Considering the human trafficking that is inherent to illegally entering the country, aiding that activity is pretty much the opposite of what I would expect the red cross to do.

Forgot about that one, this one is sort of an update of that ongoing event and includes things like the 350 million dollar figure to US taxpayers.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

Technically, what's happening is straight up alien smuggling and is something at which the cartels excel. They hardly need help from the Red Cross.

I didn't say it was an answer, just an observation.

The Red Cross has historically been portrayed as assisting refugees from wars, poltical persecutions, and natural disasters which generally doesn't seem to apply to central and South Americans heading north.

Well, I stand corrected. All I remember about them is getting guys jammed up because they weren’t writing home often enough.

Could be. I never had a problem writing to my Dad & my Mom was already dead. Dad was a member of “The Silent Service” and he never brought any grief on any of us. I miss that old man every day, he showed me the way...
