I dunno, I think he could buy his way into the Constitution Party. Not sure if the Libertarians would take him, the Greens wouldn't want him.

Any one of these parties would love to have him, but Trump would pass because he knows nobody has ever heard of them.

It might have felt good to go after Disney but using the power of the state in retribution against a company for speaking against the policies of those in power, particularly a company like Disney, was going to have political consequences.

Of course DeSantis wants to characterize the issue as simply leveling the playing field but it wasn't the issue until Disney dared to publicly disagree with DeSantis. Government retribution against business... not exactly what some would call conservative. Chris Christie: "Where are we headed here now, that if you express disagreement in this country the government is allowed to punish you?" To me, that's what I always thought liberals did, and now here we are participating in this with a Republican governor. I don't think Ron DeSantis is a conservative, based on his actions toward Disney."

Back in Febuary my comments here were: Is this some type of ‘equity’ play to drag down Disney to be more like the surrounding dilapidated areas where government has more control? Well it looks like I was close... DeSantis said there are suggestions to put a prison next to Disney. I don't believe it was a serious comment but DeSantis left himself open to criticisms like the below.

The Nikki Haley-aligned super PAC SFA Fund, Inc. said in a statement that after the Florida governor’s latest bid to “one-up Mickey Mouse after a devastating and embarrassing blow to his efforts to rein in Disney World, Ron DeSantis has proposed some new neighbors to the amusement park – criminals.”

No matter your politics, getting into a fight with Mickey Mouse isn't politically smart.

Trump: “First Ron DeSanctimonious got outplayed, outsmarted, and embarrassed by Mickey Mouse and Disney. Now, while Fort Lauderdale is facing the worst flooding in 100 years, DeSanctus is on tour with his ‘shadow’ campaign for president, instead of taking care of the people of Florida.”

    Ouch...

Yeah, no, picking a fight with Mickey Mouse is going to play really well with most Republican voters. They're the poster boy for big corporations getting handouts while shilling for the left. Standing up for them is going to cost Trump, and any other "conservative" who's values consist of being business-friendly and little else. It's the consistent backing by those very GOPers that has enabled so many corporations to go left of center, knowing that the Right will back them, through their business policies, regardless.
It's f*****g great, putting holes in people, all the time, and it just puts 'em down mate, they drop like sacks of s**t when they go down with this.

Not sure what that makes me then. I used to consider myself a R but now consider myself an I.......Simply because most of the R's don't have the balls of the D's. I have no issue with DeSanctimonious picking a fight with Mickey........They earned it and its about time someone fought back. I also hold no affection for big corporate bailouts. Its welfare for the Rich and / or picking winners or losers in industry where the market should be the one to pick the winners and losers.

I quit Disney because I was sick of having their BS forced down my throat. I'm also tired of seeing it on nearly every commercial that rolls across my screen, even on subscription streaming services. Not 100% sure what I'm going to do about that one.

If you thought it was such a great thing then you and all the other pearl clutchers should have been pushing for EVERY corporation to have their own government. Of course nobody has ever advocated for that because it’s so obviously a colossally stupid idea.

Disney had a SPECIAL status that I don’t believe any other corporation in the entire country had. Make them play by the same rules AS EVERY OTHER CORPORATION has always had to.

Corporations playing by different rules, particularly favorable tax status, isn't uncommon. I don't think that's been driving DeSantis' war with Mickey Mouse.

Of course DeSantis is trying to sell this as simply leveling the playing field, but I don't buy it. It's about government retribution for disagreeing with those in power. DeSantis was a three term Florida congressman. Ever hear him crying about Disney's special status back then 2013-2018? Disney gave $50,000 to DeSantis' PAC in 2019 while running for governor, and he was publicly appreciative. Was DeSantis crying about Disney's special status then? Hell, DeSantis was married at Disney! M4C folks figured it out a while ago...

    Let me quote:

I guess they should have kept mouth shut.

It is more shut your pie hole.

You had a good thing going until you opened your mouth.

    It's explicitly punishment.

    I am pro-punishing Disney.

Desantis drew the line and Disney pissed over it.

The argument for special tax favors is that a corporation brings more public good than the taxes. That’s an entirely political calculation.

Disney got into grooming kids, now their special favors are not in the public interest.

I wish the government wasn’t in the business of picking ANY favorites. That is not the world we actually live in, and unilateral disarmament is only going to work in your make believe world.

The “true conservative case” for Disney running IT’S OWN GOVERNMENT is even weaker than tax favors.

You won't find a more straight arrow than Mike Pence. He agreed with the so-called 'don't say gay bill' that this issue is really about. However, even Pence publicly said that DeSantis went too far. “Going after their taxing authority … that was beyond the scope of what I, as a conservative limited government Republican would be prepared to do.”
