Closing slide on empty chamber thread is gone

So letting the bolt close on an empty chamber is a bad thing? Asking as our night crew that do the weapons check each day probably do that on our safe full of work SBRs.

Sorry for the poor photo. Top, a WWI trigger, you can maybe make out that it does have some cuts to take weight out-- that is standard. Second from top, a commercial Colt from maybe three decades ago-- not sure if a Colt bought new today would be the same, but, the shoe is steel, the bow is steel, and they are silver-brazed together. This one has an overtravel stop laser-welded in and lightening measures taken with the shoe and the bow. Then, two current aftermarket triggers-- steel bow and aluminum shoe. The bow fits into the trigger same as the Colt commercial one but gets staked in rather than silver soldered. Some makers also put a little epoxy in there-- I've not seen one ever come loose (nor a Colt come unsoldered). Second from bottom will get a few cuts in the shoe. The bottom one has holes in the shoe. One is from top through to the bottom, the OT stop is built-in in the form of extra aluminum that must be file-trimmed, an idea I proposed to EGW some years ago.

Yes, drilling the bow weakens it. Most trigger bows are already weak thanks to whatever steel they use, some of it is soft and dead almost like copper. "Dead" meaning, not springy. But inside the gun, all are adequate. You just have to be careful when it's out of the gun, if you drop it and step on it, it will get bent.

Not sure if the Series 70 or newer are different, but I have a WWI vintage 1911 and I'm sure it's been done millions of times over the course of it's life and everything still works, even on original parts as far as I can tell.
