    Body Armor Plate List

Is the a list of body armor plate manufacturers and some kind of tiered ranking list? I have no idea what the best manufacturers are or what the best plates are.

Not that I've ever seen but Velocity and Hesco are usually the ones everyone can agree on being good.

I'm not an expert, but there seems to be a lot of disagreement around this one. However, pretty much everyone I consider to be "switched on" recommends against AR500.

Hesco, TenCate, Point Blank Enterprises, Highcom, RMA, and LTC. Guys like Velocity Systems or Hoplite or whatever aren't manufacturers, but they are reputable rebadging of one of the big manufacturers.

Hard pass on any kind of metal plate outside of specialized niche ultra low viz use.

Not company specific exactly, but Im regretting my single curves.

    Spend extra for multi-curve IMO.

There is alot of rebranding out there too, such as Shellback selling rebranded RMA plates (which are excellent, of course).

    YES!
Multi-curve all the way. Much better comfort.

The question for you is, what size plate are you? This needs to match your carrier.
Also what weight level are you ok with per plate? And how much do you want to pay per plate?

    New NiJ ratings RF1=LIII, RF2=LIII+, RF3=LIV

New rating level RF2 is between old LIII and LIV, these 4 are not on that older list.
All RF2 plates- defeat M193, M855, 7.62x39, M80. Tests show most will also stop M855A1even though NIJ does not test the plates against 855A1.

Least expensive RF2 plate Militech RF2 4.8lb from China 2 plates for $336 -great edge to edge protection, actually performed better than most RF2 plates
    Scorpion Tactical Extreme RF2 4.6lb $259ea
RMA 1092 RF2 plate 5.6lb $285ea -better edge to edge protection than Scorpion
    lightest but most expensive Hesco 3810 RF2 3.9lb $690ea
Usually the lighter the plate the more back face deformation you get from the 7.62 NATO rounds.

It's 4 years old but may point you in the right direction.

Velocity Systems is good to go. I have been issued their armor overseas, and it is available for civ purchase.
