    Help with SOT Dispute.

I purchased a silencer from a dealer who had it on hand and processed the paperwork in August of 2022. In the meantime there was a dispute between the two of us. I wrote a negative yelp review.
He informed me he would not transfer me the silencer.

He is willing to “withdraw” my now approved form 4 and transfer it to a different dealer at my cost. (And obvious extended wait).

I went to the shop yesterday the owner was not present. The employee told me he contacted the owner and those are his terms.

I’ve tried not to color the background in any way as I want an honest assessment of what I’ve written in response.

I may be wrong, but it’s your property. You paid for it, the ATF approved you, so you are the owner of the suppressor. At this point he is just a middleman between you and the federal government. I also would imagine that he not being the individual or a trustee ( if you filed as a trust) on the approved atf filing, he is in illegal possession of a suppressor sot or not. I would maybe contact the atf and your state’s attorney general.

If it is approved it's yours. It's paid for, it's approved, if he does not relinquish it that is theft. Follow Inkslinger's advice. I doubt the local PD has the time, and perhaps not the authority, but coming in with a cop and your receipt might result in a completion of the transaction. Sucks, but you may have to resort to civil court.

I'd call the ATF with your information (Serial # and Dealer) and let them have their say.

Report it to ATF as stolen, because in a manner f speaking refusing to complete an approved transfer is precisely what they've done?

I would bet they haven't completed the 4473 so at this point the FFL/SOT can still refuse to complete the transfer. Why anyone would neg review anyone for any reason with something NFA before it's in their hands is beyond me.

There are LOTS of FFL/SOTs that I absolutely refuse to deal with because they either tried to screw me over or tried to screw over a customer of mine. In most cases I simply moved on, I didn't worry about giving them bad feedback because I'm a grown up. NFA stuff is not Amazon.

Find a FFL / SOT you trust and do all your biz through them. Don't go looking for somebody who is $5 cheaper.

Admittedly, prudence would be to not drop the Neg until AFTER the item is in hand and no further dealings-with to be require ever, but that ship has sailed for OP. I once put a gunshop on my Blacklist because despite having done solid by me they gave a buddy's wife a shopping experience so hostile she left in tears... and she's IIRC a medical professional, came in after work still in office attire.

I agree it was foolish. What would you suggest I do now?

He can’t keep my property, refuse a refund, and make me spend money elsewhere can he?

Probably time for both parties to swallow their pride and sit down and negotiate something fair. Both of you could escalate until the ends of the earth with no-one coming out on the winning side.

Offer to take down the negative review as a path to a middle ground.
