Since someone might mention supply vs demand, I'll guarantee you there hasn't been a huge rush on these items considering the original pricing several years ago, but now suddenly they're almost twice the price? Nah. The "Law of Supply and Demand" equation can be artificially manipulated.
I think part of it is original BAR parts are mostly gone, same thing that made AK prices triple. I remember when the first 1918 models came out I wanted one desperately because I knew I'd never have the money for an original BAR, but those went fast. If any of these are using FN parts, barrel ban keeps them from using original barrels so that means they had to come up with US made replacements.

Bottom line is like AKs, shit got expensive when cheaper parts dried up.

I wanted a gun that shoots 30-06 and jesus ****, the price of something equivalent to a 91/30.
People were trying to get rid of them and now because history is drying up the market people wanting 4k for a ****ing infantry rifle that cant even run modern ammo.

    Lots of options for you.

Fewer options for those who want to own history. Nobody gives a shit about history being able to fire modern ammo any more than you give a shit if your 30:06 will fire vintage ammo.

I own rifles that ammo is no longer even produced for. Have fun wrapping your head around that.

I agree, the prices on the open market are pretty ridiculous, but where the heck did you see them for 4K? Civilian Marksmanship Program sells Service Grade Springfield Armory or HRA M1s for $900, Field and Rack grades for a bit less.

If you install an adjustable gas plug, you can run any ammunition you want in the Garand https://www.creedmoorsports.com/prod...nd-Accessories

Sid is correct that neither the Garand or BAR are modern guns. I don't know much about the BAR, but there are a lot of parts that fall out of a Garand when you start pushing pins, and it's a bit of a puzzle the first couple of times you re-assemble one. Mounting optics is non-trivial and a compromise at best, both are heavy, en bloc clips are a little weird, etc. Who cares? We are not limited to owning only one or two rifles.

Part of the attraction to me is the fact that a bunch of young warriors like my Uncle Val fought with these guns literally around the world and honestly saved mankind from the Axis powers. The M1 and BAR are both legends, and the BAR also has the cachet of use by both gangsters and G men during prohibition.

I totally agree that the semi-auto BARs are ridiculously priced, but I imagine the registered machine guns aren't cheap either.

You should see the increases on some collectibles. I bought this FAMAS rifle maybe 15 years ago and paid 8K for it. I sold it some years later for 14K and thought I had done pretty well. I saw "my" rifle last year on Gunbroker for 35K and it sold for that!. I know it was mine, exact same serial number. They didnt bring many in. Now there is another on gunbroker:

It is not mine, different serial but it is also not as nice as mine. I had a dozen magazines for mine, courtesy of Buddy Hinton, and all kinds of accessories

If I remember correctly, Century imported 200 of them and then the import ban hit.

Century was only the importer. I do not think they quite brought in 200(I've heard as few as 35 made it in) although that was their original plan. The import ban did put the Kabosh on the golden days of foreign semi autos.
