Well, now that the majority of the work on what I've taken to calling "Project Desmond" (in honor of the 007 franchise's resident Mad Scientist and the actor who portrayed him) has drawn to a close, it's time to start looking for a scope, nd I need to humbly petition for the Wisdom of the Crowd again.
First, a quick view of what we're working with both in weapon and available space.
Requirements:
1. Must be Quick Detach, completely toolless removl and reinstall when it's time to break the thing down and put it back in the briefcase.
2. Must hold zero through repeated remove-reinstall cycles.
3. Must be compact enough to fit into available space.
4. Does NOT need to be "tactical," just outwardly look it--this project is a pure Range Toy, not meant for even Critter Gitter never mind any kind of serious work. We're trying to build something that looks like it belongs in a movie and still shoots well enough to be fun in matches, NOT anything we'd issue a real covert operative. (If a REAL Double-O commissioned a build from me I'd hand him an ASDW an an LPVO and call it a day.)
5. As space is tight, something that can take some knocking aroun while still holding zero is a BIG plus.
Expected effective range is 100yd max--IIRC the 10/22 is designed as a 100yd-at-most gun though can be tuned for farther. What other data do we need before we can start spitballing suggestions and evaluating candidates? The lazy part of me is tempted to just get one off Pew Pew Tactical's 10/22 scopes list like a Simmons Truplex, slap it in an appropriately sized cantilever and call it a day, but I'm wondering if there isn't something to better fit the needs for my "everything for an entire range trip except the safety gear in one case" concept.
I MIGHT be able to rearrange the mags and slide the scope into the parts-&-tools tacklebox if that opens up options; that's already where the TRS25 mini-red dot lives.
