Just in case you find one, don't buy a Nikon P-Tactical 2-7 rimfire scope for a 10-22. The windage turrent is in the perfect spot to skin your knuckles when you charge the rifle. It's great on a rimfire AR though.

Good to know, Andy. I my end up having to use a higher mount because of the fixed rear sight anyway--it's integral with the structure of the rail.

Yes, you will need to think about the height with that rear sight.

Have you considered a scout mount? Either with a scout scope or a regular scope in an AR cantilever mount in reverse.

Todd, a reverse cantilever was the mental picture I first had. With the short length of rail, I was thinking one to clamp onto the rifle handguard, or just mount a low one on a 1/2" 1-lever 7-slot QD riser for fast takedown and reassembly.

If I'm measuring right, I need about a 9/16" clearance from top of the rail to bottom of the eyepiece. I'm assuming we don't want any of the iron's reticle intruding into the eyebox... and speaking of, a more forgiving eyebox might be helpful too.

Random thought: Do any of you guys shoot Appleseed, and if so would this thing be legal for that?

I’d expect most scopes will need to be mounted over the rear sight. I’d try and mount it about as low as possible if eye relief allows it to be in front.

The Leupold fixed 2.5x has a pretty generous eye relief, the Trijicon TR-21 has a ton of you can find a used one.

I'll see if I can get some selfies looking through the sights to show what we're working with, if that helps; I'm still at "Pistol Experience Only" and my gal is practically a complete firearm virgin, so something even a complete idiot can get the hang of quick is a bonus.

What's the community consensus on the Crimson Trace Brushline Rimfire?
    https://www.crimsontrace.com/product.../01-01580.html

Midway has it for $105 with an available $25 rebate, next time they offer free shipping (for which the thresholds keep going up and up and up).

Should be fine but I typically don't use rimfire scopes on rimfires, don't know why, probably because they are usually low quality scopes.

Was going to recommend the Leupold VX-2 3-9x40mm, but looks like they discontinued that one as well. Getting harder and harder to find decent budget glass.

What lead you to infer that? The article you linked says "Lastly, he stated that the plain and simple reason for Nikon leaving the riflescope business is purely a financial one. Sales data is reflecting a net negative for the company in the riflescope market but very positive indications for their other sport optics such as spotting scopes and binoculars."

Disciple, there was also plenty of note that the European and Japanese markets frown on hunting.

Also found another option I'm considering... SWFA has a Konus Pro T-30 for $108 on their 50%-off sale. https://www.swfa.com/konus-3-9x40-ko...iflescope.html
