Some things I get, Von Braun knew the deal but all things being equal probably would have preferred to not need slave labor and really nothing was up to him anyway. And there was probably no going to the moon without him and a few other paperclip people. But that is almost a day and night difference compared to bio weapons data gained from live human victims. Anybody capable of doing vivisection on anyone who isn't a serial killer or pedophile is a sociopath and has voided their humanity and right to keep breathing.
That we made such a spectacle about preventing Tojo from dying from self inflicted wounds so that he may know "true justice" and then to give a pass to pretty much every single person involved in Unit 731 might be the high water mark of US hypocrisy in the 20th century and that isn't easy. But the Tokyo War Crimes trials were pretty much a dog and pony show from the start, beginning with the absurd idea that Hirohito himself had no knowledge of war crimes committed by his military let alone direct involvement. And we were an accomplice in that lie right up until his death and he went down in the history books as the peacemaker who saved Japan.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
