    VARGET!

Walked into a local store and found a bunch of varget on the shelves. First time I’ve seen it in stock in a very long time.

Being as I haven’t used it much lately, how much difference is there between lots? I have some from awhile back and am I going to need to do more load work up when I open up this lot?

It would be best to work up your loads every time you change a major component. Especially powder. It's probably not a huge safety risk, but for the sake of performance.

Mix it all together and make it a single lot.

That works, as long as they don't recall one of the lots

Varget has had quite a bit of lot to lot variance, plus prices I have seen lately are crazy.

All good points. I've had definite velocity shifts from lot to lot. I might do a reduced test load on the new stuff to get an idea of how hot it is, then make the call.

Thanks, I was hoping you’d chime in.

What I do with .308 is reduce the existing load by .5 gr and shoot 10 rounds. If the first round is really hot (that has never happened before), I might stop there and adjust. Most times it's a minor tweak to the load.

My biggest lot swing was 4064 IMR. It was over 100 fps slower on a lot change a few years ago. I really became a lot change believer after that one.

I've been seeing more powder on the shelves lately. Even popular ones such as Varget and H4350, in kegs. Problem is powder is worthless without primers. I'll be excited when primers are readily available at a reasonable price. So glad I stocked up on TULA small rifle and some Federal large rifle when I had a chance.
