And it probably is the height of human arrogance to believe a form of intelligent life could travel even 4.2 light years (assuming Proxima Centauri had intelligent life in it's solar system) and NOT be able to observe us without our knowledge. It's not what was said per se, but who said it. It's that scientist of his stature and position to talk about the topic openly that way is more extraordinary than you appreciate or realize. There's (finally!) been a major paradigm shift when someone like him is now part of a project like that and it's not a career ender for him to do so.
