Question for suppressor owners

One quick and dirty way to check suppressor alignment is to mount the muzzle device and can, and then look down the bore from the breach end towards a light. If you see a perfect circle, everything is GTG; if you see an oval, then your alignment is off.

A use a LGS that has a range and while I'm waiting in NFA jail I'm free to come shoot it all I want. I can't take possession and leave with it until approved, but being able to use it whenever I want turns the wait essentially into no wait at all.

I've currently have 2 cans waiting for approval here in E TN. My dealer said I could come by anytime during business hours and shoot them off their back deck. Sounds like it depends on the dealer's policies.

I don’t know if some of you are actually reading the thread or not. They have NO PROBLEM with me coming in to use the can. What they won’t do is slide a bore alignment rod into it until my atf approval.

Yea, they don't want the liability if you get a bad round or something and a strike and then blame them because they said alignment was fine.

It may have happened to them already and now they cant trust anyone.

Do the eyeball test or bring your own check rod.

I still don’t get this logic. If they gauge and it’s off how are they at fault. Explain the problem and solution to a person that doesn’t understand the situation. Nothing falls on them. They are just pointing out a potential problem if it exists.

That was what I was saying as well. Think of it this way.....we currently live in a society with people that no longer accept responsibility for anything and place blame on others for everything. It sounds like they've probably had a situation in the past where they did check alignment and when a baffle strike occurred afterwards the customer wanted them to take responsibility. It's the same reason you now see disclaimers for everything. Blame it on all the people that look for opportunities to place blame on others to get their way.

You could also make the argument that by allowing a customer to use a suppressor without first verifying the alignment, the gun shop would be liable for the damage. As far as I know, they are not legally obliged to let you use the suppressor. That’s entirely at their discretion. It’s a moot point now. I’ll take a rod in and verify it myself.

Seems like an odd policy decision. They are fine with you firing rounds through it but not pushing a rod? That's a little weird.

It's your can, you paid for it, you just cant have it yet. If you go in to "shoot it" and happen to bring a rod are they gonna stop you?

Their shop their rules I suppose but it's strange.

I don’t know how I or anyone could consider them liable. They didn’t make the barrel or suppressor. I would like to ask them if all the customers with suppressors bring their own rods or just come in and fire away.

You are reasonable, most people aren't. They are covering their ass.
