It's all in the MSH assembly. I'd just pop it out, esp if it has a plastic housing, and see if Wilson can ship a fully assembled complete unit ready to drop in. They started the Integral Locking System crap around 20 years ago when I was in college if memory serves.

The Colt Competition is S70 and has a modern beaver tail safety. Can be found for about $900. That’s where I’d start.

Lots of good info to think about. I hadn’t really put Springfield armory on my list. What do y’all think about the Colt Ccu versus the SA trp? Thanks

The TRP is the sweet spot in the Springfield line in terms of value for the dollar. Very nicely fitted for the price point. Lots of clean used ones out there for 1200-1300.

The TRP is a huge winner. One of my first guns and still have it. Never malfunctioned and I’ve owned several others, all great. Built like a tank. I would go TRP over the Colt, but that is preference and experience. I’ve had no problems with my Colt Rail Gun. Has run great as well but give the nod to the TRP.

I have a 2012 bought new Colt S80 .38 Super and I love it. Since new it's had a few modest mods and some polishing. I use it for 2 gun competition and it's been exposed to all kinds of fine, moon dust and never failed. I think one of the things one can do to keep a 1911 running is to use full power ammo, full power springs and quality magazines. I use Wilson, Tripp, McCormack and original Colt.
