You have just been hired to run Glock for the next 5 years....what do you do?

Now that Gaston has passed on, what direction would you take Glock? I think there is a decent argument to be made that, no matter how successful they have been, the may have been a bit too conservative over the past few years. I totally understand, and the Gen 5 Glock is pretty much the Glock actually perfected. But that aside, if you were going to run it for 5 years, what would you do?

    Here are my thoughts...

    1. Enter the Carbine market. Even after 39 years of joking about it, they really should do it. Especially since they now have an actual carbine to sell. I would take a hard look at the MCX/HK416/433 etc and try to undercut them. Make sure to get some military and police contracts even if you have to give it away. They should steal every good idea and figure out how to make the guns for the lowest cost possible. I would not make an AR although I would make sure it took AR mags.

    2. Gen 6 Glock needs to have an industry leading optics mount. Also try and revise the egos a bit more (but keep mag and holster backwards compatibility. Just look at the clone market and steal what you can.

    3. Do they really have anything in the hellcat and Shield Plus category. Should they compete there?

    What else?

I really only have three wants from Glock. A better, optic specific, optic mount. A better trigger, along the lines of the Timney, but at a sane carry weight. A better grip angle.

Backwards compatibility on holsters mostly sailed with the 5th Gens. If a Gen 5 Glock fits a previous Gen holster without some adjusting or force it is almost blind luck.

I won't say it(or anything else) is perfect, but the Holosun SCS direct bolt up to the MOS slide is kinda hard to beat. Working with Holosun or other manufacturer to improve the optic might be a good idea.

    Fix their abominable numbering system.

I'd change the grip angle so it points like all my other pistols naturally point. Yeah, its a training issue, but not an insignificant time investment.

Y'all tell me, because I don't know. Isn't the grip angle sort of baked in by the magazines? I know there are various clone frames but are they more like a Sig 320 or M&P or are they just a little better than the Glock angle?

What do I do if I’m in charge of Glock for 5 years?

    Well let’s see:

1.) For agreeing to the job demand the board give me a giant cash bonus every year that I am able to increase profits, and a generous severance package at the end of the contract or if they elect to terminate me.

2.) In pursuit of goal #1 I do what every scumbag CEO does and cut costs, cut costs, and cut more costs. Thus increasing profit not by doing hard stuff like product development and increasing market share. Instead focusing on cheap cheap cheap guns for the same or more money charged to distributors.

3.) Rinse and repeat step 2 over and over and over again without a single care in the world about product quality because gun buyers are stupid and will buy Glocks for at least 5-6 years based on name recognition alone.

4.) On the way out the door on the 11th month of year 5 insist on a special edition Glock 19 with a rainbow colored slide and MIM everything including the barrel.

5.) Read the various gun forums and watch all the crying and bitching while I laugh like a madman all the way to the bank.

Release a series of derivative mash-ups covering the various permutations of G22/G23 slides and frames. Gotta give the people what nobody asked for...

Shitcan the MOS system and design something similar to Agency’s AOS.

Glock PCC with a form factor similar to the B&T APC9.

Release a lineup that’s similar to HK’s “Tactical” line. Threaded barrel, suppressor height sights and optics ready from the factory.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.
