Kennedy stated he'd nuke Russia and probably meant it if anything launched from Cuba.

I only left LBJ out because there are those who would argue [unsuccessfully] that he was waging a full-on war in SE Asia and therefore wasn't a pussy. The way he ran it and gradually pumped up the American troop numbers was typical of an incrementalist Democrat line of thinking. His predecessor? Well, likely a different outcome.
