Yeah. I suppose sketchy ammo isn't worth the risk.

I still have 2 Fifty cal cans of that bad '80 or '82 308 IMI. Beautiful looking surplus ammo... but all sorts of reports of case head failures.

For the OP... if your brass splits look like any of the bad IMI 308 cases, I would stop using it.

Can you pull it down and recover the components? Iraqgunz gave me a mess of shit Israeli 5.56 that I had to tear down. It was some awful ammo, but I salvaged most of the components.

Probably, but at the time of purchase ( decades ago ) 308 surplus was so cheap, it wasn't worth the time.

You'd be surprised at some of the surplus 308 components available back then. Not to mention all the surplus 308 from around the world. ( yeah, we all know Lol )

It was like the flavor of the month, but just in surplus 9MM , 308 and 5.56.

FN Berdan primed virgin cases, in battle packs... ( shockingly accurate with 150gr Nosler BT's ) , Virgin Hirtenberg boxer primed 308 cases... available in a "barrel" about the size of a 5gal bucket.

    Odd stuff.

    Good times, Lol
